Congrats Winter Park for being awarded your 36th Tree City USA Award!

On March 21, 2016  The City of Winter Park received its 36th Tree City USA®, 26th Tree City USA Growth®, and second Tree LineUSA® Utility recognition by the National Arbor Day Foundation®.

If anyone really loves trees and would like to watch the award be given, the award will be presented at the City Commission meeting on Monday, March 28, by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’, Florida Forest Service.

The Tree City USA Growth program recognizes that Winter Park has mplemented higher levels of tree care and has demonstrated innovativeprograms focused on increased commitment to its tree canopy.

Winter Park has met the five requirements for protection and enhancement of community trees
including:

  •  Quality tree care
  •  Annual worker training
  • Community tree planting
  • Public education with  tree-based energy conservation programs
  • An official observance of Arbor Day!

The program also recognizes FPL for providing:

  •  Lower line clearance costs
  •  Improved rights of way management
  •  Lower peak energy demand,
  •  Collaborative urban forest management opportunities
  •  More trees planted to help absorb carbon monoxide.

It's nice to see that perhaps those power bills we get every month and swear in the summer, might be going to some good use.
