The Downtown Orlando OCPS Parramore School's principal Andrew Rollins shared this weekend that Parramore needs a grocery store:
"One thing that's missing is a grocery store. The closest one is on Central Boulevard. If you don't have a car, it's far, or if you have kids, it's far. A grocery store in the Parramore community would be fantastic." (source: Orlando Business Journal)
It's too early to even think about which brand would be chosen, but it's really not when you consider the impact a brand can have on the downtown locals with regards to price and variety when compared to other metros across the county.
With the recent entrants of Lucky's Market and Trader Joe's into the Orlando grocery "scene," there a chance that downtown Orlando residents will have a chance of nabbing a grocery option other than Florida's invasive Publix. Below are some details about Publix we shared last December:
- Publix has more cash and investments than Walmart
- Publix is more profitable than Walmart
- Publix is the 8th largest privately-owned corporation
- Publix has 774 Florida locations
This is not anti-Pub-Sub-love. This is big-picture thinking. The more competition between grocery store brands means more potential for increased selection and quality for downtown locals.
Living downtown could come with benefits, one being access to top grocery stores m.
While the Parramore/Creative Village grocery store is still a wish of one person (at least publicly), it may be a certain reality with the billion dollar Creative Village, the downtown UCF and Valencia campuses and all the housing being built to support all of this development. Stay tuned!
