#bringtoorlando The Cycle Track Bike Lane Separated from Cars by a Raised Island

According to Bike Walk Tampa Bay, Florida is getting its first "cycle track" on a state road thanks to the Florida Department of Transportation. What makes this different from a bike lane is that (1) it'll be 10 feet wide and (2) be separated from vehicular traffic by a 4ft raised "island."

This special lane is being constructed in downtown Tampa.

Unlike in downtown Orlando, where the City painted a green bike lane on Magnolia Avenue green and left the sections where driveways and side streets intersect with the bike lane completely blank, on this Tampa road, those driveway and side street intersections are painted green to bring attention to cars.
