7 Small Cultural Events to Do in Winter Park at the Morse Museum in May


The Morse Museum (Website), which celebrates its 75th anniversary this season, is home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany. It is located at 445 N. Park Avenue (MAP) in downtown Winter Park. The Museum’s hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdaythrough Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Regular admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $1 for students, and free for children younger than age 12. 
  1. Friday, May 5 Friday Brown Bag Matinee.  Noon. The Story of Women and Art: Episode 3 (60 minutes). Jeannette G. and Hugh F. McKean Pavilion, 161 West Canton Avenue (just behind the Museum). Free.
  2. Friday, May 12 Friday Brown Bag Matinee.  Noon. American Masters: Dorothea Lange—Grab a Hunk of Lighting (54 minutes). Jeannette G. and Hugh F. McKean Pavilion, 161 West Canton Avenue (just behind the Museum). Free.
  3. Tuesday, May 16 2017 Hugh F. McKean Public Lecture. 7:30 p.m. The Hunt and Reveal of the Secrets of the Devil’s Diary, with Former FBI senior art crime investigator and author Robert K. Wittman. Presented in association with Rollins College. Tiedtke Concert Hall, Rollins College. Seating limited. Free.
  4. Friday, May 19 Friday Brown Bag Matinee.  Noon. Continuation of American Masters: Dorothea Lange—Grab a Hunk of Lighting (54 minutes). Jeannette G. and Hugh F. McKean Pavilion, 161 West Canton Avenue (just behind the Museum). Free.
  5. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Curator Tour of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s Laurelton Hall. Learn more about Louis Comfort Tiffany’s Long Island estate with Curator Donna Climenhage. Space limited. No advance reservations. Free with admission.

Wednesdays, 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Gallery Talk on Revival and Reform—Eclecticism in the 19th-Century Environment. Learn more about the rich diversity of styles, especially in leaded-glass windows, that made up the visual environment of the late 19th century in Europe and America. Space limited. No advance reservations. Free with admission.

Fridays, 11 a.m. Gallery Talk on Celebrating 75 years—Pathways of American Art at the Morse Museum.Learn about the more than 60 objects in the exhibition, which include paintings, pottery, art glass, and works on paper. Together the works reflect the range of the Morse’s collection and the values of the Museum. Free with admission.
