34 Community Service Organizations to Receive $2,005,624 From City



As part of the FY17-18 budget process, Orlando City Council approved funding for 34 community service organizations totaling $2,005,624. Through the Community Investment Program, the City of Orlando invests in efforts that solve community problems by granting funds to meet the needs of a growing central Florida population and address the diverse needs and challenges Orlando residents experience. Program focus areas include Homeless Program Support, Family Sustainability, Domestic Violence, Support of Seniors and Hunger Relief.

The following criteria will be used to evaluate funding proposals:
  1. The program will make a significant impact to address an identified focus area or community need.
  2. The program will be comprehensive and available to all affected City of Orlando residents.
  3. The nonprofit organization demonstrates effective service and management capability.
  4. The nonprofit organization demonstrates good fiscal strength.
  5. The nonprofit organization successfully leverages City funding to diversity funding streams in support of the program.
  6. The nonprofit organization or program has a substantial presence in the Orlando community.
  7. The nonprofit organization has local support and community ownership.
  8. The nonprofit organization collaborates with businesses and other social service organizations to improve service delivery and create measurable outcomes.
Organizations not Eligible for Funding
  1. Those that discriminate or exclude participants on the basis of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, disability or marital status
  2. Third party or “pass through” nonprofit organizations or fiscal agents
  3. Government agencies (but may associate with a government agency)
  4. Foundations whose sole purpose is fundraising, unless they directly deliver an eligible program
  5. Faith-based nonprofit organizations/programs, unless there is a non-faith-based service that is available to all segments of the population
  6. National nonprofit organizations, unless dollars requested will remain in the Orlando city limits, impact families who reside within the Orlando city limits and meet grant guidelines
