The City of Winter architect and planning staff were not impressed by the renderings subitted by Weingarten Nostat, Inc. of the planned Sprouts Farmers Market Grocery Store, a natural and organic grocer, coming to a portion of the 9.16 acre Winter Park Corners Shopping Center at 1903-1999 Aloma Avenue.
The facade and image was described as "very disappointing" to the city architect and planning staff. "The simplicity and lack of architecture, articulation and visual interest is likely motivated by cost factors in the real estate transaction." The building has "little or no architectural design features to create relief to the overall massing of the building, other than the front entrance." It also is not consistent with the City’s Comprehensive Plan policies to avoid the “big box” styles and does not “promote quality redevelopment that strengthens the character of the City”.
According to the City, Sprouts grocery stores built elsewhere in the Nation that have attractive architectural styles, articulation and visual interest. Sprouts has produced quality architecture and visual interest in the past. The City says "They can do that again in this case if they try."
The city architect started a dialogue directly with the Sprouts architectural firm in Kansas City. In the interim, the staff is recommending the exact same condition of approval imposed upon the Rollins College Facilities building, which is that the final elevations come back to the P&Z Board for approval after the collaborative design process is completed.

- Remove Bank of America's drive-thru lanes for 10 parking spots and 1,500 sq ft addition
- Construct a remote ATM site along Aloma Avenue frontage.
