A home built in 1922 at 1234 Lakeview Drive was demolished with the City's approval in 2017 to make way for a new two-story, 5,758 square foot home. The demolition took place between April 11-18, 2017.
At the August 2016 meeting of the Winter Park Historic Preservation Board it was shared that the home may be lost to a new home due to it being under contract with a new owner. See below:
The home was listed on the 2013 City of Winter Park's Historic Resources Survey. This is a record of properties that have been identified as historic. This inventory is a “living document” that is regularly updated as properties are added or removed.
The new home will sit on a 16,159 sq ft lot. It was created by combining the 1234 Lakeview Drive lot (valued in 2017 for $1,095,259) with the 1251 Lakeview Drive lot (valued in 2017 for $1,097,951).
The owners have the last name Mears according to a rendering submitted by to the City.
The only trees on the two properties not cut down were the cypress trees at the water's edge. The Code direction on water front lots is “to preserve existing trees to the degree reasonably possible.” Several trees within the building footprint are being removed, most of which are "unprotected or decaying trees" according to the City Staff.
Winter Park Design, representing the property owners, will request site plan approval for this project March 6th. The company was founded in 1985 by Gary Hancock AIA.
