The Central Florida performing arts community is coming together in support of theatre friend and Orlando Repertory Theatre Box Office Manager Debbie Dean. Debbie is fighting cancer initially found in July, 2007, and has recently spread. In order to help cover costs associated with treatment and living expenses, organizers have planned a Debbie Dean Benefit and Show to be held on Monday, February 25, at Orlando Repertory Theatre. An impressive list of performers (all friends of Debbie Dean) have donated their talents for the cause. “The Central Florida arts community has always been one that works together and cares, personally, about the folks in the community.”, stated Terry Olson, Orange County’s Director of Arts and Cultural Affairs. “This is something that I am proud of as I visit other communities that are not nearly so positive. It is great to see people turning out to help Debbie Dean.”

Included in the ticket price is the performance, lobby entertainment, non-alcoholic beverages, appetizers and hors d’oeuvres (generously provided by Jim Szasz and Good 2 Go Gourmet, with support from Darden Restaurants Foundation), and both a silent and live auction. A 90-minute general audience cabaret performance which will highlight the evening, including performances donated by American Racket Cloggers (Andy Howard and Company), Baby Blue Star, Shannon Bilo, Leslie Carrara, Becky Fisher, Luerne Herrera, Tod Kimbro, Janine Klein, David Lee, Steve MacKinnon, Beth Marshall, SPORT, Michael Swickard, and Michael Wanzie.

“Debbie Dean is a dear friend to me and the theater community in Orlando.”, stated Orlando performer and creator David Lee who will be hosting the February 25 event with Beth Marshall, Executive Director of Orlando International Fringe Festival, and Michael Wanzie. “She is one the finest stage managers I have ever worked with and a tireless supporter of the theater. She gives the best hugs in the world and has always been concerned for the health and well being of those around her whether it be someone encountering her for the first time at the box office, an actor, a friend, or a child. Debbie is always taking care of everyone. Now it is time for us to give some care for Debbie!” Marshall added: “Debbie has always gone over and above with her work ethic and fabulous energy and spirit. She is fierce at whatever leadership role she is given and is a strong team player to boot. When you see Debbie Dean’s name associated with a project, you know it is gonna be top notch, because she is just that--top notch. I heart Debbie Dean on so many levels!”
