May is Orlando Bicycle Month per Mayoral decree

Mayor Buddy Dyer says May is Orlando Bicycle Month:
PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, for more than a century, the bicycle has been an important part of the lives of most Americans; and

WHEREAS, the City of Orlando has been designated a "Bicycle Friendly Community".

WHEREAS, today, millions of American engage in bicycling because it is a viable and environmentally-sound form of transportation, an excellent form of fitness and provides quality family recreation; and

WHEREAS, Green Works Orlando is an environmental action agenda designed to transform Orlando into one of the most environmentally-conscious cities in America, encouraging environmentally-friendly lifestyles through alternative transportation modes like bicycling.

WHEREAS, the City of Orlando incorporates Complete Street policies when investing in road improvements to enable safe access for all users, including bicycle lanes, off road trails, and bike parking.

WHEREAS, the education of cyclists and motorists as to the proper and safe operation of bicycles is important to ensure the safety and comfort of all users; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BUDDY DYER, Mayor of the City of Orlando, hereby do proclaim the month of May, 2008 as

"ORLANDO BICYCLE MONTH"
in the City of Orlando.
