16-year run of WMFE's The Arts Connection suspended

Message on WMFE's website 6/4/08

WMFE's 16-year old radio program, The Arts Connection, had been suspended for financial reasons:
The radio show's host and producer, Rebecca Morgan, said she heard Friday from Dale Spear, the station's new vice president for programming, that he "couldn't justify the resources for an arts program."

According to station president Jose Fajardo, the radio show has been "suspended," not dropped, and WMFE's regular news shows may do some arts reporting.

"We want first to get out of our hole and then reassess what we want to do on the radio," he said.

"But the days of doing an hourlong program . . . it's not what we want."

The show's website features this statement:
"In today’s economic climate many non-profits are facing funding challenges. WMFE is as well and as a result must unfortunately suspend production of The Arts Connection on 90.7 WMFE-FM."
We are honored and grateful to report that one Orlando Arts Podcast listener brought the show up in a comment on the Orlando Sentinel Theatre Blog:
Maybe Mark Baratelli's Orlando Arts Podcast can pick up the slack?
