Pearl of Irregular Shape | Baroque Orlando Phil Concert

The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra presents the third concert in its 2009-2010 Focus Series, titled Baroque-A Pearl of Irregular Shape, on Monday, April 26, 2010. The performance takes place at 7:00 PM in the Margeson Theater, located in the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, 812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando. Maestro Anthony Hose leads the Philharmonic in a program of the beautiful music of the Baroque. On the program is Handel's The Entrance of the Queen of Sheeba and Concerto Grosso, op. 3, No. 7, "Alexander's Feast;" Boyce's Symphony No. 5; Purcell's Overture: The Indian Queen; C.P.E. Bach's Symphony for Strings No. 1 in G; and J.S. Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3. Hose enhances the music with an educational element, providing discourse about the history and nuances of the composers and their works.

Hose began playing piano at age three and gave his first recital at age six. He studied at the Royal College of Music in London majoring in piano, harpsichord, and conducting, additionally studying clarinet and double bass. He continued his conducting studies first in Salzburg and then with Rafael Kubelik in Munich and Geneva. Hose works with many orchestras throughout Europe including the Berlin Symphony, Budapest Concert Orchestra, the Icelandic Symphony, the Rhine Philharmonic, the Munich Bach Collegium and the Orchestre de L’Opera de Lyons and in Britain with the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic, and the English Chamber and Welsh Chamber Orchestra of which he is principal conductor. He is also Director of Orchestral Studies at Stetson University.
