World Fair Trade Day Tea Party

To celebrate World Fair Trade Day OurLando is throwing a tea party. They're protesting sweatshop tea by sipping fair trade May 8, 2010 at 4:30pm at Infusion Tea (1600 Edgewater Drive in College Park Orlando) and painting tea cups. Bring your lightly colored tea-cup (on which to paint) in hand and "taste the delicious flavors of fair trade tea."

Don't worry about putting on your grandma's dress for this tea party though, we're doing it casual style. There will be lots of information about fair trade and lots of fun and freaky tea cups. Make sure your tea-cup is lightly colored though so your revolutionary new design will show!

What is Fair Trade?

Fair price: Democratically organized farmer groups receive a guaranteed minimum floor price and an additional premium for certified organic products.

Fair labor conditions: Workers on Fair Trade farms enjoy freedom of association, safe working conditions, and living wages.

Direct trade: With Fair Trade, importers purchase from Fair Trade producer groups as directly as possible, eliminating unnecessary middlemen.

Democratic and transparent organizations: Fair Trade farmers and farm workers decide democratically how to invest Fair Trade revenues.

Community development: Fair Trade farmers and farm workers invest Fair Trade premiums in social and business development projects like scholarship programs, quality improvement trainings, and organic certification.

Environmental sustainability: Harmful agrochemicals and GMOs are strictly prohibited in favor of environmentally sustainable farming methods that protect farmers' health and preserve valuable ecosystems for future generations.
