General Mentions

"If I had a dollar for everyone that bemoans the lack of things to do in Orlando, I’d be a millionaire. “There’s plenty of stuff to do,” I protest. “I mean, *besides* the theme parks,” they inevitably reply. I just roll my eyes and point them to Mark Baratelli (and staff)’s blog, which showcases everything art, theatre, shopping and events in Orlando. If you’ve ever been to SAK, Fringe or the Oliver! tour a few years back, you know Mark. And thankfully, his personality shines through in his writing and videos."

"One of the founding Twitter Force members is Mark Baratelli from TheDailyCity.com, a local arts blog. He helped with the Twitter Force idea. 'Because of the Twitter Force, more folks will learn about what’s going on at the Bob Carr when the house lights go down and the stage is lit,' Baratelli said."

"Mark Baratelli, even while often living out of town, broadened his indispensable blog, The Daily City, to encompass Meeting of the Minds (MOOM) meet-ups, Taco Truck Taste Tests and the vehicular-venued Mobile Art Show. If everyone in Orlando who claims to care about the arts had 1 percent of Baratelli’s... energy and commitment, this city would be a world culture capital."

"Mark Baratelli is a man of many talents. Maybe you’ve seen his one-man improvisational cabaret performances, which were a highlight of the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival for several seasons. You might have seen his show-saving star turn as King Herod alongside Ted Neeley’s geriatric Jesus in the recent national tour of Jesus Christ Superstar. Or maybe, like me, you’re one of the readers who rely upon his indispensable arts and events website TheDailyCity.com, where he blogs and tweets on any and everything stewing in Orlando’s cultural cauldron (somehow scooping us even when he’s out of town – how does he do that?)."

"Hey, look, we’re in the running for the Daily City’s Best Best of Orlando. A few weeks ago, we saw the Daily City on Twitter trying to decide whether to do its own version of a Best of issue and if so, whether to populate it with readers picks or critics picks. Apparently, they’ve opted for readers’ picks. But in just one category: Which “Best of Orlando” is the best of Orlando Smart thinking, Daily City."

Best of Orlando 2010 Writers Pick
Orlando Weekly | July 13, 2010
"Best vehicular venue for visual art: About a dozen different downtown venues participate in the monthly Third Thursday Gallery Hop, but most of those are in boring old buildings. Only one gallery dares to go outdoors: TheDailyCity.com Mobile Art Show makes its home inside a U-Haul truck parked at the corner of Pine Street and Orange Avenue. Curator Mark Baratelli consistently keeps the cool-stuff-per-square-inch ratio sky-high."

Orlando Sentinel | July 8, 2010
"Less than two blocks away, the CityArts Factory (29 S. Orange Ave.) is always the center of activity with its many galleries, including the popular Mobile Art Show just outside on Pine Street. MAS is an art show on wheels ... in the back of a rental truck to be precise. Monthly selected artists work with MAS producer Mark Baratelli to present a unique art experience."

Taco Truck Taste Test

Critics Pick
Orlando Weekly | July 23, 2010
The Big Apple has its street-side hot-dog carts and the San Francisco Bay Area has carts that dish out spicy curry flavors from corners around the Mission District. Orlando, meanwhile, has taco trucks. We know you may be hesitant at the thought of eating food out of a “roach coach,” but TheDailyCity.com editor Mark Baratelli invites you to immerse yourself in the true “trucking” experience at the Taco Truck Taste Test. After a yearlong hiatus, the food-sampling event is back, at the urging of Jorge Mendoza, one of the blog’s readers. He and Baratelli will be on hand Friday to guide hungry patrons to the several taco trucks, which are within walking distance of each other, located in the SODO district. When ordering at the trucks’ windows you’ll get a taste of the city’s thriving, yet sometimes overlooked Latin and Spanish cultures. (9-10 p.m. at the parking lot of Tacos Del Rio, 9785 S. Orange Blossom Trail; various prices, cash only; www.tacotrucktastetest.com)

Taco Truck Taste Test
Random Acts of Coffee Blog | July 23, 2010
"Mark Baratelli of the blog TheDailyCity.com organizes Taco Truck Taste Tests, opportunities to explore the street food culture we have here in Orlando. Tonight was TTTT #5, and the first one I’ve participated in... Our taco truck expert Jorge Mendoza was on hand to describe the food and the culture and offer up some suggestions... I grew up in Southern California where good Mexican food is available everywhere. Orlando is not as blessed, so it’s good to find authentic Mexican food nearby!"
