Bring Paul F. Tompkins to Orlando

Perhaps you’ve seen comedian Paul F. Tompkins on Mr. Show? Or during his brief stint as the presenter of VH1’s Best Week Ever? Or, if like me you waste a lot of time listening to comedy podcasts, you may have heard him on The Best Show on WFMU, Never Not Funny, Comedy Death-Ray, Superego, or his own, recently-launched Pod F. Tompkast. He has also released two very funny stand-up albums, and he’d love to play here in town. But we have to work for it.

You see, after a bad experience last year, Paul started the Tompkins 300 – he’ll only perform live in a city after 300 interested people join a Facebook group for that city. It’s a nice way for the touring performer to be sure that they won’t come to the other side of the country just to be met with twenty people who are only at the club for the drink specials.

I set up the group for Orlando a while ago, and it’s been growing steadily but unremarkably. There’s still a long way to go, so if you’re a fan of stand-up, please join it, and invite your like-minded pals to do the same. There’s definitely a market for stand-up in Orlando - Patton Oswalt, Louis CK, Margaret Cho, Doug Stanhope and DL Hughley are all coming to town before the end of the year – so I’m sure if everyone tells one friend and they tell one of their friends and so on, we’ll be able to enjoy some Paul F. Laffkins of our very own.
