The secret has long been out that Munich’s Oktoberfest actually starts in late September and since that works for them there is no reason for Orlando to mess with tradition. Next weekend will be our own taste of the Bavarian celebration via the folks at Orlando Brewing. Here are the full details:

Orlando Brewing will be hosting their 4th Annual Oktoberfest Celebration on Saturday, September 25th at the Brewery located at 1301 Atlanta Ave, Orlando, FL 32806. The celebration will include an Oompah Band, authentic German Food, Games and much more. The festivities begin at noon. Each year Orlando Brewing brews a special beer for the celebration.

Orlando Brewing’s Oktoberfest Beer is a Märzen Style of beer which originated in Vienna, Austria and later adapted by brewers in the Bavarian Region of Germany. The Bavarian brewers had to brew the beer by the end of March (März), as the high temperatures of summer spoiled the beer. The Bavarian brewers would store or "lager" the beer in cold, icy caves throughout the summer and it would be consumed at autumn celebrations like the Oktoberfest.

The Märzen style is a lager which relates to the position of the yeast during the beer fermentation process. A lager uses a type of yeast that ferments at the bottom of the fermenting vessel and at cooler temperatures 44-55 degrees (F) for approximately 30 days. This long fermentation process helps clarify, add complexity and smoothness to the beer.

Orlando Brewing’s Oktoberfest Beer’s dominant flavor is sweet malt with light toasty notes of caramel and toffee flavors. Additionally, bread or biscuit like flavors are present. The aroma is notable, but low to medium, and with a clean finish. There is a slightly stronger hop presence, but sweetness remains the predominant characteristic of the beer. The color is a medium copper. The average alcohol content by volume (abv) is 4.5%.
