One Less Car Orlando: A Celebration of Transportation Alternatives

9-10-10-CARLESSORLANDOOne Less Car Orlando, A Celebration of Transportation Alternatives, is Saturday, September 25, 2010, 10am-4pm at the Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Community Center (946 N. Mills Ave, Orlando, FL). We are proud to be the Media Sponsor for this fantastic event.

About: The goal is to encourage people to park their cars a little more and explore the benefits of alternative transportation -- environmental, mental and physical, and community engagement. Have you complained about Lynx, but never been on it? Do you think SunRail will be too expensive for you to ride? Why is that bicyclists are using the whole road these days? Would you like to carpool, but don't know anyone else who carpools? These questions and more will be answered at One Less Car Orlando.

In addition to an expo on the main floor of The Center, we're having a speaker series we're calling Park-N-Chats:
11:00 am: Cristina Cruz from Got Bikes will be chatting about bike history, the benefits of biking, and where you can bike in Orlando.

Noon: Marianne Gurnee from SunRail gives an informational talk about the planned commuter rail. Have questions about SunRail? Yeah, I thought might.

12:30 pm: Cristina Cruz and volunteers will teach you a thing or two about bike safety in 2010. Think you know bike safety? Come and see! During this session, two teen bikes will be given away!

1:00 pm: Courtney Miller from reThink Your Commute gives you pointers on changing your commute to help your wallet, your lifestyle, and your city.

2:00 pm: Bruce Stephenson, Director of the Environmental Studies/Growth Management Program at Rollins College and Director of the Masters of Planning for Civic Urbanism for the Hamilton Holt School, presents "Orlando 2050: transit and the future region." Can Orlando become the Portland of the southeast?

3:00 pm: Keri Caffrey from Cycling Savvy helps you become a confident cyclist on the road. Get off the edge of the road!

4:00 pm: Lenora Lockett Spence from MetroPlan Orlando tells you about Central Florida’s transportation system of the past, present and future, as well as information about transportation funding.
