Florida Film Festival 2011: Launch event

Last night, the Florida Film Festival unveiled its logo and theme for the 2011 festival, its twentieth birthday. The logo, which you can see here (click on it to make the picture bigger and better), was designed by the folks at Lure Design, and looks fantastic. I must confess, this year's logo, a chicken with a video camera for a head, freaked me out a bit. Enzian President Henry Maldonado presented the new logo, and discussed how the 20th Annual Florida Film Festival would be showing off more of a Florida influence than ever before. I'm sure we can expect a few special screenings of classic Florida movies, and some big names to show up and speak about their work here.

The other thing to be excited about is the combination of film and food that was promised last night. In addition to the film schedule (which is still being determined), there will be a series of tasty-looking events happening around the Festival. Places like The Ravenous Pig, 4Rivers Smokehouse, Luma on Park, the Ritz-Carlton and Black Hammock are all on board for for these events. Here's what the festival says about the film/food combo:
From fresh squeezed citrus to soft-shell crab, Latin fusion to Southern soul food—these authentic flavors will be celebrated in a stellar lineup of casual brunches, elegant dinners, food and film pairings, and parties.
We'll keep you posted as to new announcements regarding the 2011 Festival, particularly when they announce the films, the guests, and the panel discussions. But for now: mark your calendars: The 20th Annual Florida Film Festival will run from April 8-17, 2011, and this time, it's Floridian. We can't wait.
