The Orange County Regional History Center (65 E. Central Blvd. in downtown Orlando) is putting on a festive holiday celebration Wednesday, December 1, 2010, beginning with entertainment by Grand Avenue Elementary School in Heritage square at 5:30 p.m. Following the lighting of Heritage Square, the History Center will be open free to the community.
Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty will flip the switch to light Heritage Square at sundown (approximately 6 p.m.). Following the lighting, guests are invited into the History Center to enjoy a festive evening featuring musical performances by the Voices of Valencia and refreshments by Java Lava, and visit with Santa, decorate cookies, make holiday crafts, and more.
Visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
The Orange County Regional History Center, housed in a restored historic five-story 1927 county courthouse in downtown Orlando, showcases the vast collection of the Historical Society of Central Florida, Inc. The museum features three floors of permanent exhibitions and also presents nationally important limited-run exhibitions. The museum, a Smithsonian Institution affiliate, is accredited by the American Association of Museums.
