HUD Green Retrofit for Multifamily Housing Affects Downtown Senior Living Complex

Kinneret II, a senior multi-family high-rise apartment complex in Orlando, Florida received $1,572,558 to upgrade 112 units. Renovation includes replacing windows, doors, appliances and water-saving devices. The Green Retrofit funds are part of a major, national Recovery Act milestone: 100 affordable housing developments, including 8,112 homes, around the country have been awarded more than $100 million to complete energy efficient renovations with Recovery Act funds.

On October 12, 2010 HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan (see video of him speaking by scrolling down this page) toured the Kinneret II along with City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Congressman Alan Grayson, and Congresswoman Corrine Brown. They were taken up the main elevator to a unit to see just how the changes looked. Afterwards, they each spoke about the project to press and a small seated audience in the parking lot of the building.
