Thanks to several press releases from a bunch of theatre companies, some research and Elizabeth Maupin's extensive listing post, we present all the productions (that we're aware of) in Central Florida of "A Christmas Carol."
1. Wanzie’s Glittering Star-Studded 'A Christmas Carol: A Dickens-Inspired Celebrity Cavalcade Holiday Spectacle! at the Parliament House in the Downtown Booty District sounds like a don't-miss. Anything can (and does) happen on the stage at Parliament House. Expect insane, off-color humor and inexpensive drinks.
2. The Garden Theatre's A Christmas Carol in Winter Garden is a TV-actor-led cast of fifty performing a traditional telling of the story. Tip: arrive early to get some French treats at the bakery a few blocks away.
3. Theatre Downtown does A Christmas Carol in Ivanhoe Row. Tickets are $18 and include pre-show caroling!
4. Dickens By Candlelight does A Christmas Carol at Dr Phillips Center on Lake Ivanoe in Ivanhoe Row. Three actors don scarves, hats, bonnets and beards to perform all 35 roles in and around the audience seated at tables drinking tea and nibbling cookies. Tickets are $35 for this immersive experience.
5. A Christmas Carol performed by one man: David McElroy of Southern Winds Theatre at Stardust Video and Coffee (1842 E. Winter Park Road, Orlando) Dec. 17 and 18 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 adults, $10 children 7 and up. He'll also be performing it at Sleuths Mystery Dinner Theatre (8267 International Drive, Orlando) Dec. 22 at 10 pm, Dec. 24 at 9 pm; $15 - $20. 407-341-3495.
6. Nebraska Theatre Caravan does A Christmas Carol Dec 18 at 7:30 pm at the King Center for the Performing Arts (3865 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne). $10-$28; 321-242-2219.
7. Sands Theater Company does the musical version of A Christmas Carol Dec. 3, 4, 9-11, 17 and 18 at 7:30 pm and Dec. 5 & 19 at 2:30 pm at the Athens Theatre (124 N. Florida Ave., DeLand) $20 regular, $10 students. 386-736-1500.
8. Titusville Playhouse’s Rising Stars Theatre is doing A Christmas Carol Dec. 10 at 7:30pm and Dec. 11 - 12 at 2pm at Emma Parrish Theatre (301 Julia St., Titusville). $5-$8. 321-268-1125.
9. The Surfside Players is doing a radio drama version of A Christmas Carol through December 19, 2010 at the Surfside Playhouse (Brevard Avenue and Fifth Street South, Cocoa Beach). $10; 321-783-3127.
