The 4th Orlando Indie Media Meetup was held Tuesday February 22, 2011 at Downtown Credo Coffeehouse (706 W. Smith Street in College Park). First off, big thank-you from the entire group to Downtown Credo. They stayed open late for us. They also have a very neat thing: a coffee subscription. For $20/month, you get a mug and as much coffee as you want.
And go to their "Committment Breakfast for Downtown Credo" March 10, 2011, 8am-9am. That will be a discussion led by the owners on "how (they're) improving the quality of life on both sides of I-4 and how you can be a part."
A lot was discussed at the February 22 meetup. Bess from Central Florida Top 5 shared what she learned on day one of Social Fresh. Then we discussed how we're all different, alike, who we think our audience is, ways we can help each other, how we can support each others' contests and events, ad sales and how each of us handle being approached by PR firms.
If you run a blog, web series, twitter feed or whatever, for free, and the topic is Orlando, then please join us at our next event. Find out when and where the next event will be on this blog or follow us on twitter.
What is it? Orlando Indie Media Meetup is a tiny gathering of five or so (depending on the month) local people who have blogs, twitter accounts, web shows, print magzines and paper zines specifically talking about the city of Orlando. The meetup is a casual hour of chit chat about what we're working on, recent and upcoming events and ways we can work together to support each other's efforts. There are no name tags, no dues, nor is it an attempt to become anything big or take the place of current local webby/geeky events. Its just a time to be in one room with as many of the individuals not getting paid to make media about Orlando.
