On Saturday, Feb. 19, Sister Hazel (Facebook Myspace Website) performed at the House of Blues. Doors opened at 7:00 pm and the show started at 8:00 pm. The opening acts were Jerad Finck and The Cringe. Sister Hazel was the final performance of the show. The five-member band is from Gainesville, Florida. The band comprises of lead singer Ken Block, bass player Jett Beres, guitarists Andrew Copeland and Ryan Newell and drummer Mark Trojanowski. The band’s music falls under a few genres: acoustic, alternative, punk, pop, classic rock, southern rock and folk. Heartland Highway is the band’s latest album, which was released last October. My favorites from the album’s 13 tracks are Great Escape, Stay Awhile, Far Away,
At your Worst, The Saddest Song, Lessons in Love, Hope, And Faith- Part 2 Snow Globe World and Lessons in Love, Hope, And Faith- Part 3 Behind the Sun. The album is relaxing and mellow- great to listen to in your spare time or to lie in bed and to just reflect and relate to the songs.

For those who don’t know who Sister Hazel is, the band’s music has been featured in a couple popular movies such as The Wedding Planner and 10 Things I Hate About You. I actually first found out about Sister Hazel after watching 10 Things I Hate About You (one of my favorite films when I was in high school) and Your Winter is one of the songs on the film’s soundtrack. Actually, Your Winter is one of my top favorite songs. Since I have an obsession with Your Winter, I was very excited to see Sister Hazel live. It was a great show and an awesome experience. It was also an upbeat show, people singing along to the songs and couples dancing. I could really sense that the crowd consisted of die-hard fans who knew all of the band’s songs. An interesting thing I noticed, Sister Hazel is one of the few bands that I’ve seen to have people of all ages in their audience. Sister Hazel really interacted with their audience by giving shout-outs to various fans and family members who were present at the show. Sister Hazel seems to be a band that genuinely appreciates their fans and vice versa. The band was on stage for an hour or so and performed a combination of new and old songs such as “The Road” from Heartland Highway, “Your Mistake” from Chasing Daylight, “We’ll Find It” and “Happy” from Somewhere More Familiar, “Your Winter” from Fortress and “Take A Bow” from Release. Sister Hazel sounds incredible live and the band definitely put on a great performance.
