Red Bull Drives Us To Deafening Fun at 2011 Daytona 500

The people at Red Bull invited me to a race 2 days before the 2011 Daytona 500 because, you know, we love the sports, especially racing. I invited my fellow Orlando blogger Thor of Analog Artist Digital World to accompany because (1) I knew he'd get a great sketch out of it and (2) his car would make the hour-long trip.

When we arrived, the parking lot we were told to park in ended up being handicapped, so we parked across the street and were assured the $50 parking fee the lot was charging (!!!) would be reimbursed. Glad Thor had cash on him. We parked, crossed the street and waited briefly for the Red Bull golf cart. Below are photos from what happened after that. Big thank-yous to Red Bull, Thor and these red ear plugs pictured at left.
The Red Bull Golf Cart drove us from the main entrance, under the speedway, to the center.

The VIP area was huge. A DJ played while drinks and food were served.

The area our VIP area was in was called Pit Road Patios.

I liked the crab or lobster or whatever dip.

The view. We were on top of everything. The sound of the cars was deafening and terrifying.

We got there early so the stands were fairly empty at first.

Thor sketched while I took photos and ate the dip. He did not put in his ear plugs the whole time.
He's now deaf.

They took us on a tour of whatever this area is called. One long row of people in jumpsuits and little tricked out mini-mobiles.

Inside the Red Bull tricked out mini-mobile with some man yelling at me on screen.

This area felt like a movie set.

Many people felt perfectly fine to sit on the tiny wall separating them from speeding cars.

Bacon!

We saw this on the golf cart ride in and I had to get a photo of it.
