(Photo from opening night of The Abbey)  Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, to recognize the 43rd anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, is proclaiming April 2011 as Fair Housing Month in the City of Orlando at the City Council on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 2 p.m. Each year the City of Orlando in a cooperative effort with the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recognizes Fair Housing Month by hosting an array of activities that enhance the public’s awareness of their fair housing rights and highlight the national commitment to end housing discrimination. Fair housing laws protect our community making it illegal to discriminate in housing transactions based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, disability, or familial status.
