Twelve 21 Gallery (1221c N Orange Ave, Orlando, FL) is quickly becoming one of my favorite galleries. The space is super cute, the opening parties are always packed and come with free cupcakes and champagne (hello happiness), and the art is always fun.
Their next opening is Friday, April 8, 2011, 7pm - 10pm and is called “Our Small Private Stories." The show features the art of Robert and Carla Poindexter. Cupcakes are by Bee's Knees Sweet Treats and the wine is from Tim's Wine.
Both artists have exhibited in multiple solo exhibitions and a considerable amount of group shows nationally.
Carla is currently a professor at UCF and a studio artist working primarily in painting and drawing. She is also well known for her animated short film produced in 2009 and for her 8 ft x 28 ft commissioned painting on permanent display in the atrium of the Darden Theatre Auditorium at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management in Orlando.
Robert moved to Orlando in 2007 and has recently concentrated on several bodies of work, which include large abstract oil paintings and intimate multimedia works on paper. His work is in many private and public collections, mainly in Texas.
Both artists are recognized for their large, seemingly nonobjective abstractions shown in past exhibitions, however this show highlights work from both past and present series which are smaller and more private, often visually poetic, and sometimes humorous.
