Rolfing at Balance: A Giggle Fest, Not Crying Torture

Full disclosure: This is a sponsored post.

Lu at Balance rolfed me today at 11am and afterwards I got the unstoppable giggles for a good two minutes. I felt bouncy and happy and the slightest thing or thought made me giggle. I asked her if it was because of the rolfing, and she said several of her clients get the giggle-fits after their rolfing sessions too. Good, I'm not a weird.

Rolfing is somewhere between massage and chiropractor-ness. You do ten sessions or less, and each one focuses on different things. At $110 a pop, it might sound pricy, but Lu offers payment plans for those of us not rolling in human-size salad bowls of dollar bills.

Lu has a head full of dreads and is from Germany. Her sense of humor and direct approach made for an enjoyable first session. She'd asked me to arrive in underwear (yeah!) or shorts so she could "see me walk." So after the brief question & answer session about my body, she watched me walk. Apparently my right hip is causing me to walk awkwardly and she could see it.

If you asked me what she did during the session, I couldn't tell you exactly. I don't remember. She did focus more on my hips and legs because of what she saw when I walked. When I got off the table, my feet and legs crackled when I walked back and forth for her to observe.

Everything people told me about rolfing was wrong. It didn't involve extreme pain. She didn't pull muscles off of bones. She stretched and pressed muscles, but no blood was drawn and no crying was caused.
Powerful elbows

My tiny legs were like hairy putty in her hands.

This is towards the end, when I got the giggles.

Lu focused on her rolfing. Mark focused on the wall mirror.

Lu tries to show me why my hip is a hideous mess,
but all I do is laugh at the rubberiness of the plastic spine.

I laughed. Did I mention I laughed?
