Rock band Silverstein performed on Friday, April 29 at Club Firestone. The show was part of the charity tour, Take Action Tour 2011. The Canadian band comprises of lead singer Shane Told, guitarists Neil Boshart and Josh Bradford, bass player Billy Hamilton and drummer Paul Koehler, all the original members of the band, which is a rarity for rock bands. The band was the second to the last act of the night and highly anticipated, obvious by the applause that the band received when they hit the stage. The band started their show with upbeat, hardcore song “Vices” from the band’s 2009 album A Shipwreck in the Sand. The audience jumped up and down while singing with Shane. The band did an hour-long performance, playing “Bleeds No More” from the 2003 album When Broken Is Easily Fixed, “Vices” and “Broken Stars” from A Shipwreck in the Sand, “Your Sword Versus My Dagger”, “Ides of March”, “Smile In Your Sleep” and “My Heroine” from 2005 album Discovering the Waterfront and “Sacrifice”, “Burning Hearts”, “The Artist” and “Replace You” from the band’s newest album Rescue.
Silverstein put on a solid and energetic performance. There were a few surprises throughout the band’s show. During a song, Shane walked off the stage and crowd surfed. The band played covers of “Pits and Poisoned Apples” by Kid Dynamite and “Hearts” by American Nightmare. If you like mosh pits, emo/hardcore rock music and want to watch a great band live, catch a Silverstein show if you haven’t.
The band has released five albums When Broken Is Easily Fixed (2003), Discovering the Waterfront (2005), Arrivals & Departures (2007), A Shipwreck in the Sand (2009) and Rescue which released Tuesday, April 26. The band will be performing for the remaining dates of the Take Action Tour. Floridians, if you missed the Orlando date for the Take Action Tour, catch Silverstein, Bayside, Polar Bear Club, The Swellers and Texas in July in Saint Petersburg on May 1 and in Pensacola on May 2.
I will post videos of my interview with lead singer, Shane Told and drummer Paul Koehler of Silverstein soon. You’ll learn about the band’s new album Rescue, the Take Action Tour 2011 and more about Silverstein.
