Orlando Fringe 2011 Review: Bitches of the Kingdom

The Oops Guys, Dennis Giacino and Fiely Matias, are back at the Orlando Fringe and at their best with Disenchanted: Bitches of the Kingdom. This show of well-known-princesses-gone-sour was met with applause from the moment the bitter princesses took the stage. Snow White immediately steals the show with her vocal prowess as she belts out "One more whistle while I work and I'll scream!" A humorous Sleeping Beauty pulls out a camping chair while Snow White and Cinderella serenade their complaints, telling the truth about the princesses through "snappy song and cheesy dance."

These feature stars were joined throughout the show by special princess guests including: Belle (talking to inanimate objects has made her insane), Jasmine (the secondary princess), Mulan (no one's geisha), The Little Mermaid (who sadly traded her mermaid tail for two legs), Rapunzel (the last German princess), Tiana (the sister finally has a song) and Esmerelda and Tinkerbell (more secondary princesses). As the princesses lament, sing about their woes, man hang-ups, epiphanies and even food cravings, there is little doubt the audience will stop for a burrito or French fries on the way home later.

The stellar cast and original songs received a standing ovation on their premiere night at Fringe. Michelle Knight brings her broadway stylings to the role of Snow White to lead this cast of princess misfits. Mulan, played by Lulu Picart, was a stand out performer with fantastic vocals, Lisa Sleeper's Sleeping Beauty is anything but in her parody role and Krista Miller provides great variety to the Disenchanted cast with her vignettes as Jasmine, Esmerelda and Tinkerbell, all secondary princesses. Disney fans be warned, these aren't exactly your storybook princesses. The Oops Guys' latest is sure to be a Fringe runaway hit.
