Kids Summer Art Classes at Maitland Art Museum

Kids and teens can take art classes at Maitland Art & History Museums this summer. Below is the schedule. Three, two-week sessions: June 13-24, July 11-22, or July 25-August 5, unless otherwise noted. Tuition: $90 Non-member; $80 Member, unless otherwise noted. Early Registration Discount: Register and pay before June 3, 2011 and receive an additional 10% off the tuition. ABC’s OF DRAWING
Ages: 10-18
Instructor: Teresa Chin
Time: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 1:00-3:00pm
Location: Studio 4
Skill Level: Beginning
Introducing students to the power of observation and interpretation of what they see-and how to transfer to paper. Students will also learn about the rich history of drawing and how people throughout time have used it to communicate and share.

DRAWING AND CARTOONING
Ages: 7-14

Students will learn basic techniques and approaches of drawing and cartooning comic strips and illustrations.

CREATE YOUR OWN SUPERHERO
Ages: 7-14

Students will cover caricature composition and create their own superhero.

LITTLE ARTISTS
Ages: 6-12
Instructor: Ruth Schorer

Skill Level: Beginning to Intermediate
This class features 2 days of Drawing, 2 days of Watercolor, and 2 days of Acrylic Painting to give students an introduction to a wide variety of media. Students will be taught sketching, line drawing, tone, values, blending, and composition with pen and ink. They’ll also use watercolors to learn how to create amazing paintings with washes by mixing colors and achieving hard and soft edges. With acrylic paints students will learn how to achieve rich colors and textures, and how to use running paint in a composition on canvas board, stretched canvas, or even on primed cardboard.

BLANK CANVAS: A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT
Ages: 7-12
Instructor: Maria Petrakos
Time: Saturday June 18, July 16, or July 30, 10:00am-2:00pm

Skill Level: Beginning
Students will learn about art fundamentals – line, color, texture. After working on their own pieces, students will work together to create a collaborative work that will be showcased at the Maitland Art Center. Tuition includes $5.00 material fee.

POTTERY
Ages: 6-12

Skill Level: Beginning
This class features many different pottery making techniques and each session will include hand-built and wheel projects. Students will also learn about decorating, glazing and firing techniques; which includes colored slips, underglazes, stoneware glazes,among others. The last day of class features an art show and “graduation” party where the class features all of their work, observes a raku firing, and enjoys light refreshments. Fee includes firing costs.

PETITE PALETTE ON THE GOGH
Ages: Prek-6th Grade

Come learn about styles of art through the ages. Your artists will learn about Impressionism while creating a plein air painting of beautiful Lake Lily. They will learn about the abstract age while creating a masterpiece out of clay. Pointillism and Realism will be inspiration for a collage. Every day will consist of new projects as well as a guest presentations by local artists to lead the students through a project to call their own. Playground time and snack time will be included. June and August lessons will be different, so come to both! Class size is limited to 40. Sign up for Aftercare if your children need to stay until 2.

– Learn The Basics Of Making Beaded Jewelry & How To Bring Your Business To Life
Capture your artistic voice and learn the basics for starting your own jewelry business! We’ll learn how create jewelry using beads/crimps & clasps. We’ll also present and work through a basic timeline for creating your own brand, finding a place on the web to sell your goods, & taking your art to market. This is great for young entrepreneurs to see the steps involved in taking their work from the artists’ bench out into a commercial setting. Attendees will leave with 3 -4 of their own creations as well as a basic business plan, timeline and website.
