Mills50 Utility Boxes

by Cole NeSmith

Today, Genevieve Bernard, was the latest artist to add her design to one of the utility boxes in the Mills50 district of Orlando.

The box features monsters that Genevieve's father used to add to letters and notes he started writing to her as a child. Now 77 years old, her father will still include them on letters he sends from Pennsylvania.

Genevieve, a dance instructor and creator of the Voci Dance company here in Orlando, liked the monsters so much that she adopted them for herself and will often include them on notes to her students. "I know of at least three of my former students to have actually gotten one of the monsters tattooed on them," she said this afternoon while painting the box.

9 other artists have already completed their paintings on other utility boxes in the Mills50 area including Michael Fajardo's "Siege Ink," at Mills and Lake Highland - pictured below.

Each artist received $100 for supplies and a $100 gift certificate redeemable at businesses in the Mills50 area.
