The Australian modern rock trio Sick Puppies (Myspace Facebook Twitter) performed at House of Blues in Orlando on Sunday, May 29 for their current headlining tour. The band comprises of singer and guitarist Shimon Moore, bassist Emma Anzai and drummer Mark Goodwin.
Sick Puppies was the final act of the night and rocked the House of Blues with an electrifying performance. Fans connected with the band by waving their hands in the air during slow songs, jumping up and down during upbeat songs and singing with lead singer Shim throughout the show. The band started their set with melodic and catchy song, “Odd One,” from the band’s 2009 album Tri-Polar. The band performed for an hour and a half playing “Nothing Really Matters” from the band’s 2001 album Welcome to the Real World, “My World”, “All The Same” and “Cancer” from the 2007 album Dressed Up As Life, “Rip-Tide”, “Should've Known Better”, “War”, “Maybe”, “White Balloons” and “You’re Going Down” from Tri-Polar.
There were a few surprises in the show when the band performed acoustic versions of a few songs and did a cover of “Fuck You” by Cee-lo Green. The band puts on a great show and plays a satisfying setlist. The band’s front man Shimon, who was recently in FUSE TV’s poll “Most Electrifying Frontman”, claims the stage with constant energy and connects well with the audience. In addition, bass player Emma provides good stage presence with great moves, headbanging and back-up vocals.
The band has released three albums Welcome to the Real World (2001), Dressed Up as Life (2007) and Tri-Polar (2009). In March, the band released the EP, Polar Opposite. In May, Sick Puppies released the deluxe edition of Tri-Polar which features three rare B-side tracks and the previously unreleased track “Monsters”. As of right now, the band does not know when a new album will be released. You can catch Sick Puppies on the remainder of their current headlining tour.
