This Father's Day, an Orlando son and father will hug for 24 hours straight with no breaks for the public to watch on Father's Day (Sunday, June 19, 2011 12am - 11:59pm).
Could you do this with your Dad or son? Try it and see! Audience members and their "hugtner" (hugging partner) can stand side by side with the original Son/Dad team after the 12th hour and give it a go -er- hug. The person you're hugging can be anyone, not just your father or son.
This act of mega-bonding will take place inside a boxing ring of all places at Orange Ave Gym (1616 N. Orange Ave. Orlando, FL 32804) in the Ivanhoe Village District. Admission is ten bucks.

The 24 hour endurance and relationship-test concept is the brainchild of artist Young Sun Han. His piece was "24 Hour Embrace" in which his hugtner was a person he found on Craigslist and his venue was the Swimming Pool Project Space. It took place in Chicago on December 31, 2008.
Brian Feldman (Facebook, Twitter), award-winning Orlando-based conceptual artist, will re-perform Young Sun Han's work, with the artist's permission, with the father/son twist. It will definitely be a memorable piece for all fathers and sons and a new way to celebrate the holiday.
"It is meant to be both a healing and transformative experience," said Brian Feldman. "How often does one have the opportunity to embrace their own father for this period of time?"
We're not familiar with the world of performance art, but apparently re-performing and granting the rights of re-performance is a rare thing. This father/son embrace will be the first time Young Sun Han has granted permission for the re-performance of this specific piece. According to the artist, he was pleased to grant permission for the re-performance given Brian Feldman's "consistent approach and dedication to time-based/endurance/social performance. I hope our work inspires others to create their own unexpected and spontaneous happenings," said Young Sun Han. It's also the first time Brian Feldman has re-performed another artist's piece. The closest we think he's come is this staring contest.
