Maitland Art & History Museums Leased for 51 years, $1 Per year

The City of Maitland’s City Council approved a long term lease of the Art & History Museums (both listed on the National Register of Historic Places) for $1 per year for 51 years on July 11, 2011. A press event is scheduled for the day of the lease signing later this month. The City of Maitland owns the properties and the negotiations had been ongoing since October 2010. The lease provides for a fifty-one year term and an evergreen provision with the intent that the lease will automatically extend each year, so that the A&H will continually have a fifty-one year term with which to seek funding opportunities for future growth. The Art & History Museums operates the Maitland Art Center, Waterhouse Residence Museum, Carpentry Shop Museum, The Telephone Museum, and Maitland Historical Museum on its two historic campuses in Maitland.
