Retrofitting Main Street Topic of Next Congress for the New Urbanism Meeting

The next meeting of the local chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism is Wednesday September 14, 2011 at 5:30pm at 918 Orange Avenue, 2nd Floor, Board Room. Beer, wine and appetizers will be provided. The topic of discussion will be "Retrofitting Main Street with Downtown South Main Street Association."

About:
Let's talk Main Streets. The City of Orlando has a successful Main Streets Program that spans many neighborhoods in the city. One of those is Downtown South extending along Orange Avenue including Orlando Health and to parts of Michigan Street. What are the big and little steps we can take to retrofit corridors like South Orange Avenue and Michigan Street into walkable neighborhood fabric?

Main Street Board Members and knowledgeable City Staffers will give a brief presentation on the details of the Downtown South Main Street Program; planning efforts already accomplished; its funding sources; and its general Mission - along with the Neighborhhood's urban design challenges. The DTS Board then hopes to engage CNU members in a discussion of vision for the neighborhood's urban form and circulation as well as project phasing and prioritization.
