"Dumpster Presence" First of Many Micro-Grant Projects @CityBeautiful

“Dumpster Presence,” the first $500 Why I Love Orlando Micro-Grant project is moving forward.  On Sunday December 11, 2011 beginning at 7am,  local artist Andrew Spear, Janessa Gursky and the team who came up with the dumpster painting idea will be transforming three dumpsters into brightly-colored holiday presents in front of the Stardust Lounge at the Lake Eola Farmer’s Market.

About: The Dumpster Presence Project is part of a larger campaign called Why I Love Orlando.  Why I Love Orlando encourages the city’s residents to come up with creative, inexpensive ways to show their love and appreciation for Orlando.  In September, a group of residents proposed the Dumpster Presence idea as a way to take an important, albeit bland, object such as a dumpster and turn it into a piece of artwork that sparks conversation and/or simply makes someone’s day a little brighter.  The supplies to paint the dumpster were provide through a $500 micro-grant from local businesses and community organizations. The group also thoughtfully chose the recycling dumpsters in hopes that their project would be a visual reminder of just how important it is to recycle.
