Mount Dora Simpson Hotel Neon Sign Reveals History

In downtown Mount Dora, you'll notice an old unlit neon sign for the Simpson Hotel.

The Simpsons were the first homesteaders in Mount Dora in 1874.  The many business holdings in the area they'd soon come to acquire allowed them to be instrumental in building many of the city's original buildings.

They built the first private school building in 1912, the ice house, currently the Ice House Theater and of course, this hotel in 1947.

The Simpsons unsuccessfully campaigned for schools like Stetson and Rollins to be built in Mount Dora.

There is still a bed and breakfasst run by the Simpsons just around the corner from the Simpson Hotel sign.
