Orange County Public Schools is now expanding their
connections with local faith based partners through a new faith based 'Adopt a
School' initiative. The program would team local faith based organizations with
schools near them so that the two can work on providing programs that enhance
the communities they're mutual found in.
Superintendent Barbara M. Jenkins states on the site
"Our faith-based community is an extremely important part of Orange County
Public School’s efforts at cultivating sustained community engagement. Our
missions to better our community dovetail when churches, synagogues, mosques,
and all faith-based organizations harness the power of volunteerism and servant
leadership to benefit the region’s youth in schools."
The program looks at local faith based groups to help
provide life-skills training, after-school and summer activities, and academic
assistance The program also encourages groups to contact OCPS if they have an
idea of how their group can assist the public schools in Orange county.
