Trader Joe's and Lake Front Restaurants to Become Hillstone Restaurant Neighbors?

By Ken Storey

In Winter Park, one of the most beautiful places to enjoy dinner is at Hillstone Restaurant due to its beautiful lake front location. A proposed development, Lakeside Winter Park, is planning on moving in next door and bringing with it two lakefront restaurant spaces. Hillstone stands to lose its status as the only restaurant on the lake.

The Adventist Health offices stand where the proposed upscale, Mediterranean-influenced 3.86 acre commercial plaza development would be placed.  Butted up against Orlando Avenue would be a new bank and retail building.  A more traditional style single story strip plaza would fill out the property.

A surface parking area for 160 cars would be included. Again I ask "why not roof top parking?" This is the perfect place for it! This would enable the land owners to use that open space as a town green for events. Just sayin'.

A dock for boats and a walkway to the apartments next door provide easy access to the development.  The main entrance at Morris Blvd & Orlando Ave allows for full signalization (stop lights).

The big news: it's rumored that a Trader Joe's may be the grocer for the plaza.

The two restaurant sites are on either side of a small fountain that splashes down into Lake Killarney.

The project calls for 30,050 sq ft of new retail and 6,000 sq ft designated for restaurants.

There will be a Planning and Zoning Board Meeting on Tuesday, January 8, 2012 at 7pm.  Their recommendation will go before the Winter Park City Commission on Monday, January 28 at 3:30PM.  Both will be held at Winter Park City Hall.

Say goodbye to this building, expect it to be torn down as soon as the new development is approved.
This small retro fab building will also be torn down to make way for the new development.
