Mt Dora's K-Mart is Closing | 20 Photos That Sum It Up

By Ken Storey

The K-Mart in Mt Dora (16900 U.S. Highway 441) is shutting down after 25 years. It should be completely closed by mid-June. The location at the corner of 441 and Eudora Road predates the Wal-Mart Super Center across the street and the Target just down the 441. The K-Mart is one of the last to feature a full sit-down diner attached the store. This is just the latest in a long string of closures for the brand as it reorganizes. 7 stores, including the Mt Dora location, have closed in the Orlando/Daytona market since the beginning of 2012. Seven stores remain open in the area. Lake County’s only remaining K-Mart can be found in Clermont.

Here is a look at the depressing state of the Mt Dora K-Mart:

The Eatery Diner often seemed to have more customers than the K-Mart itself
The Eatery featured the curved glass windows that are rarely found these days
The diner had a direct entrance into the K-Mart. Also check out the cool booth dividers that were able to be taken out for larger groups
The view of the diner from inside K-Mart
The restaurant entrance of The Eatery diner featured a small ice cream stand
The diners kitchen and dining room supplies are now laid out inside the K-Mart, all for sale.
Every last item from the diner seems to be for sale.
The K-Mart itself featured this very 80s, very unwelcoming entrance.
These are the carts that were used at the store up until just weeks ago

The closing store features many of items that I wonder if anyone ever really bought.

Like this ugly art
or these fanny packs. Seriously this is a lot of fanny packs!
Or this video.
Or this candle.  Remember it was March before the closure was announced. Why are Christmas items still on the shelfs?
A Barbie Hot Wheels Car has a stare down with the bikes
The pharmacy was being completely dismantled.
Someone was buying something, entire aisles were empty.

A few food items were still left

Good bye K-Mart
