Notice all that new construction around town? While still not at pre-recession numbers, or
even close, the city of Orlando had the second-highest population growth for
the state during the 2010-2012 time period, adding 7,102 new residents during the
two year period. Orlando reported a
population of 245,402 in 2012, up from 238,300 in 2010. Now note that this is City of Orlando only
and not regional numbers. Local
residents can live within walking distance of the urban core but still be
within an un-incorporated area. According
to the U.S. Census the Orlando metro area, which includes unincorporated areas
was 1,377,342 in 2011, placing it 32nd in the nation.
Miami topped the state growth list, welcoming 15,243 new
residents between 2010 and 2012. The
state as a whole reported 19,074,434 in 2012 with about half- living in incorporated
areas.
