The Awesome Foundation has been doling out monthly $1,000 grants to "awesome" projects around the globe, with over 600 projects funded thus far, since 2009. Each city has its own local chapter of ten or more self-organized "micro-trustees."
Orlando just got its own chapter of The Awesome Foundation, and just awarded their first grant to Panorama, a "collaborative community photography project." The first time they did their project, ten cameras were placed around the city. People were encouraged to take the cameras and document their life for a week, then drop it off at a designated location. Panorama then developed the pictures and posted them onto facebook. A projector of the pictures was also used, cycling through literal snapshots of random Orlando area residents lives.
The Orlando Chapter Trustees is a who's who of local powerhouses, both in development and arts:
Together this team will help shape the future of locally produced "awesomeness" with an estimated $1,000 a month going to unique awesome projects throughout central Florida. The projects do not have to art related with the only true requirement being that they are awesome.
