Downtown Orlando is Suburbia

"In some of the areas where we have the most allowable density... we’re getting five-story buildings... A lot of the growth that we need to accommodate the future could be on these sites, right next to transit. That opportunity could be lost.”

-Los Angeles City Planning Director Michael LoGrande

This could be said of downtown Orlando. With all the talk about turning downtown into a thriving metropolis of creativity, why are short buildings dotting Orange Avenue? And at major intersections no less? How are suburban structures making a downtown more "downtown"? These things detract from an urban feeling, in my opinion. And in the place where high-rises are welcome, they're not taking advantage of it. Those things could be plopped at Waterford Lakes and they'd fit right in.
