Game of Thrones Dragon Skull Found on Beach

By Ken Storey

Blinkbox, a UK video streaming site, recently began streaming  season 3 of HBO's hugely popular fantasy-drama Game of Thrones.  The show is as big of a hit in the UK as it here on this side of the pond.

To celebrate the launch of Season 3, Blinkbox wanted an announcement that was as large as the show is popular. It went toCharmouth beach's  "Jurassic coastline," known for its sequence of Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous rock formations and  its fossil finds. The last find was a 220-265 million year old Icthyosaur.

On the shores of Jurassic beach, Blinkbox placed a dragon skull the size of a London bus.  The skull is a nod to a specific scene in Game of Thrones where a character finds a dragon skull in a dungeon.  In the series, dragons have been a source of suspense for some time now.

The sculpture on the beach measures 45ft long by 8ft wide and is over 9ft tall.  The spine of the skull was postitioned to look like it was going into the ground, as if more of the dragon would soon be revealed.   The sculpture took over two months to complete and was installed in the time of one night, much to the surprise of locals the next morning.

Ben Ayers from Blinkbox says: “Game of Thrones is easily the most talked about TV show of the moment. We wanted to mark its arrival on Blinkbox with a spectacle every bit as dramatic as this amazing series.”

If you're in the mood for some more Game of Thrones, why not head over to Hammerhead's Bar (8526 Palm Parkway, Orlando, Fl 32836) for one of the Game of the Throne ales they have?
