It's official guys. I have a pick of the week. I was able to obtain one, and this week I'm going to use it. Watch for my... PICK OF THE WEEK.

Grown Ups 2
PG-13 - Comedy - Starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James - Directed by Dennis Dugan - Playing at most major multiplexes
Rotten Tomatoes % as of writing: 0%
That's not a typso, my friends. That's a genuine day-before-release Rotten Tomatoes 0%. 23 critics have seen Grown Ups 2 and not one of them had nice things to say about it... and that seems about right. This one looks like awful, puerile, lowest-common-denominator chum. Just a should-not-exist pool of useless. That's right, folks, the sequel to one of the most forgettable comedies of all time (I wish I had seen it while chocolate wasted) is my... PICK OF THE WEEK!
I'm kidding. Avoid this. Don't see it. Don't give it your money. Kill it with fire.

Pacific Rim
PG-13 - Action/ Barrel of Awesome - Starring Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam - Directed by Guillermo Del Toro - Playing at most major multiplexes in 2D and 3D
Rotten Tomatoes % as of writing: 71%
I'm pretty sure this movie was made for me and people like me, directly. This is the American Godzilla movie for which all emotionally-stunted early-30s alterna-nerds have been waiting. Giant monsters. Giant robots. Giant battles. Giant bag of popcorn. Giant... PICK OF THE WEEK. Yes, Pacific Rim is my first PICK OF THE WEEK. I picked it! This week! For you to see! You should do that.

Pawn Shop Chronicles
R - Action/Comedy - Starring Paul Walker and Norman Reedus - Directed by Wayne Kramer - Playing at AMC Altamonte Mall 18 (and simultaneously on demand)
Rotten Tomatoes % as of writing: 22%
The trailer for this one makes it look fun, but it hasn't been particularly well-received so far. This movie is also available as a pay-per-view through most cable providers. The PPV-and-limited-theatrical-release-at-the-same-time model is becoming more and more popular, especially with films that are harder to market, which this one seems to be. A lot of recognizable stars play awful people that attempt to kill each other. The whole enterprise feels very post-Pulp Fiction late-90s indie. However, if you are a huge Chi McBride fan, this might be your personal... PICK OF THE WEEK (though it's not mine).

Sightseers
Not Rated (probably R equivalent) - Dark Comedy - Starring Alice Rowe and Steve Oram - Directed by Ben Wheatley - Playing at the Enzian
Rotten Tomatoes % as of writing: 84%
This British import, which is a returning Florida Film Festival feature, is about as dark as dark comedy gets. Two young lovers discover a shared homicidal streak while on vacation; hilarity and death ensue. I wasn't able to catch this one the first time through, but its sensibility matches mine relatively well, and the British know how to do dry. It's only playing once a night at the Enzian in the late (9:30) slot, so you may have to organize your evening around a viewing. If it weren't for monster battles this one very well could have been my... PICK OF THE WEEK.
