Orlando, Florida, October 4, 2013 – Come Out With Pride® is underway and generating quite the buzz in Orlando with, so far, 3 events down completely sold out! After kicking off the week with Comedian, Actor & Filmmaker John Waters on Tuesday, The Improv recorded a packed house on Wednesday and yesterday, the Cheyenne Saloon re-opened for one night hosting hundreds excited to hear Out Country Singer Steve Grand perform alongside several local artists. On the other side of town, purple shirts invaded Halloween Horror Nights® in record numbers for the second annual Pride at Halloween Horror Nights® at Universal Orlando®. Tonight, thousands are set to attend the free block party on Church Street for the first time bringing several businesses together to celebrate diversity and equality in the City Beautiful. Martha Wash to headline tonight’s festivities.
“Our line-up of events has demonstrated once again our ability to include all segments of our community and even more importantly, our ability to bring all of Central Florida together to celebrate diversity and equality for all” said Come Out With Pride® Executive Director Mikael Audebert in a statement.
"This Saturday, we are expecting over 110,000 people throughout the day, one filled with fun, entertainment, celebration and a 15 minute long fireworks show over Lake Eola. Our Parade is the largest we have had since Come Out With Pride was created 9 years ago. And this year, we are honored to have several large corporations participate and show their Pride & Support.” added Audebert
Lockheed Martin, Siemens, Nike, New York Life, EA Sports, Jet Blue, Florida’s Department of Health and several others are joining Come Out With Pride’s returning sponsors this year to celebrate diversity and their LGBT employees. In addition to this fantastic line up of new corporations, the Boy Scouts of America will be marching, for the first time, in the parade. 7 local churches, several elected officials and city/county agencies will also come and show their support to the LGBT Community. On stage, we are honored to welcome Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs for the first time, and have U.S. Congressman Alan Grayson officiate a pinning ceremony promoting an active LGBT Military to the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Saturday October 5 will be filled with many “FIRSTS”. Come Out With Pride® Orlando is proud to be bringing an entire community together, including an estimated 30% of Straight Allies and families.
