At the December 12th VIP grand re-opening of the Tony Romas at 7015 S Semoran Blvd, I was not expecting much. It's a chain, so I expected lame interiors, usually-droopy employees pepped up for the special event and food that mimics good food and a lot of co-opting of a few semi-current food trends. Also, I thought it was an Italian restaurant. Is it just me or does "Tony Romas" sound like a spaghetti and meatballs joint?

The new Tony Romas is anything but. When I saw the chunky gleaming white bar, reclaimed wood paneling and brown 70s banquettes, I flipped. Go Tony Romas! You got this one!

It's not at all what you'd expect. It feels a bit like Cask & Larder in Winter Park mixed with Siro Italian Urban Kitchen at Orlando World Center Marriott.

Apparently prior to the redesign, the company spent two years traveling the US to gather ideas for their menu and interior. You can tell.

They opened one of these in Brooklyn recently. Wonder how the locals there are liking that.

Check out their new Lunch Menu and Dinner Menu and see if you see anything you like.

See the photos below to see what the interior looks like. In addition to the stunning new interior, the newly revamped restaurants feature
  • Locally-sourced produce
  • All-American Craft beer and wines
  • All handcrafted cocktails and infused cocktails using fresh fruit and aged liquor
  • All take-out packaging is 100% recyclable, corn-based plasticware for cups

The guests at the VIP event were all served little tastes from the menu. We have to go back for a full meal to do a food review.

After the Lee Vista location, the International Drive, two Miami and the Winter Park locations will follow with complete $600,000-per-restaurant overhauls in the next twelve months.

Below the photos is the menu.

Every big wig from Tony Romas was on hand for the ribbon cutting.

...and a lot of other people!

Ta da!

From certain angles, the restaurant looks like a sophisticated event space rather than a chain restaurant.

The bar is the centerpiece of the space, and this liquor wall is the centerpiece of the bar.

All employees wear plaid shirts.

These booths are 70s and delicious. And I love those globe pendants.

Shouldn't this table be round?

Love these lamps.

The cocktail menu. The full food menu is below our photos.

This is a local piece of art featuring the Tony Romas logo hangs in the middle of one of the dining spaces. It was made by local artist Marco Cruz.

This cute seating area is just off the bar.

Here are some sexy shots of some of the samplins' they handed out during the night:
