Ride Sharing May Jeopardize Your Safety: New Orlando InternationalAirport Posters Don't Exactly Say It, But They Might As Well

The Orlando International Airport's new posters about ride sharing at first glance appear to be serious and scary. The use of red, all caps and the phrase "this may jeopardize your safety" all communicate danger.

However, upon a closer reading, all the posters do is state that the ride sharing operators' lack of insurance and drivers checks may provide a lack of safety.

This MAY jeopardize your safety. Perhaps. Possibly.

The posters don't outright say ride sharing is dangerous or that the practice is banned on airport property.

They say two things: (1) ride sharing is not authorized by the airport and (2) ride share operators do not comply with the airport's permitting regulations.

Our opinion: this is a lawyer-scripted band aid created to sooth the nerves of the existing non-ride sharing ground transportation companies. The posters appear to be frightening, but the text is actually benign, Additionally, it may be an effort to absolve the airport of guilt should anything negative happen to a passenger using the ride share services available to them.

Below is the wording in the poster:

"Attention: Ride Share Customers. For your safety & security, ride share operations are not authorized by this airport. The airport mandates proper insurance and driver checks of all Ground Transportation Operators. Currently, ride share operators do not comply with the airport's permitting regulations. This may jeopardize your safety! Please use authorized ground transportation located on level 1."
