Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 5 City Commissioner Regina I. Hill, District 6 City Commissioner Samuel B. Ings and ONYX Magazine will host the annual Black History Month Reception and Commemoration on Tuesday, February 3. The event will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Rotunda at City Hall at 400 South Orange Avenue.
This year’s Black History Month theme, “A Century of Black Life, History, and Culture,” points to the last 100 years of African American history; yet, it is acknowledged that the history of African Americans dates back many years before.
During the free event at City Hall, several organizations and individuals who have made an impact in Orlando will be honored, including the Young Fathers of Central Florida, the Negro Spiritual Scholarship Foundation, community activist Father Nelson Pinder and students Yold Delius of Evans High School and Joel Pierre of Wekiva High School, who are excelling in academics, leadership and community service.
