Joe’s NYC Bar returns to the Mills|50 Arts District

The return of a local theater favorite opens in March 2015 at St. Matthew’s Tavern.
Joe’s NYC Bar is a unique, interactive and improvisational theater experience that transports its audience to a bar in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The show is full of characters with stories that will compel viewers to become participants. Joe’s debuted as a part of the 2001 Orlando International Fringe Festival, and ran from 2001-2004: 10 episodes, 76 performances with a total of 43 SOLD OUT shows. Over 6,000 audience members saw the performances and Joe’s employed over one hundred of Orlando’s finest actors, musicians, and visual artists who brought the show to life.
Ten years later, Joe’s still has an excited audience – Joe’s NYC Bar was ahead of its time then, and is still ahead of its time today. A recent announcement of the return of Joe’s on social media was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from former audience members and past performers; wanting to see more, asking to perform again, and relating stories of how Joe’s shows touched their lives.

Returning to the stellar cast for the remounting of Joe’s NYC Bar are past alums A. Ali Flores (Disney’s Hollywood Studios), Trenell Mooring (Ruined), John Connon (Pluto, SAK) and show creator, Christian Kelty. Joe’s also features a renown group of talented local entertainers including Jenn Gannon (The Boy Who Stole the Sun, Die Mommie Die!), Michael Marinacchio (Exit Interview, Orlando Shakes; Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Mad Cow), Anitra Pritchard-Bryant (Exit Interview, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Glenn Pace (Chrysanthemum), Simon Needham (Explorer’s Club, Mad Cow; American Idol Experience) and the incomparable Michael Wanzie (Doubt, Beth Marshall Presents, Garden Theater; Real Radio 104.1).

Show creator Christian Kelty has over twenty years experience working as a writer, director, and performer in Orlando and New York City. He has worked with Mad Cow Theater, Universal Orlando, Sleuth’s Mystery Dinner Theatre, University of Central Florida and Walt Disney World. As one of the founding members of the Temenos Ensemble Theatre, a non-profit theater company that lived on the corner of Church Street and Hughey, Christian helped pioneer the revitalization of Downtown Orlando’s West Side. Christian has also been an active member in the Orlando International Fringe Festival since 2001. His original, Orlando produced works include, Joe’s NYC Bar, WALLS, Born: The Hard Lives and Fast Times of Adam and Eve, Obscenity, Matador, The Karate Guy, & The Boy Who Stole the Sun.
