When your children ask you "Pappy, what threw modern Orlando man's epic travel construction project of the century off course and into the river Hades, you can stagger to you feet, clasping your cane and space oxygen tank and say...
"It was... puddles."
Then a space nurse floats you back into the cryogenic chamber and ships you back to Mars.
Our mighty inter-city highway project in the sky known as I-4 Ultimate was brought to its knees by damn puddles. Standing water is preventing the first major traffic shift on I-4 Ultimate. The shift is planned, weather permitting, for early next week.
We will alert you when they send us the notice next week.
The first shift will involve Maitland Boulevard. The long-term traffic pattern will shift eastbound travel lanes on Maitland Boulevard, to the median, for approximately three-quarters of a mile between Gateway Drive and Keller Road, to allow for construction to begin on the roadway.
If the shift does occur, it will be one of the first major traffic realignments of the I-4 Ultimate project. Beaware puddles... we will be on high puddle alert, with brooms and air blowers at the ready.
All of the work is planned during overnight hours, and the road will be ready for morning drivers using eastbound Maitland Boulevard, from the State Road 434 entrance ramp to the Keller Road intersection.
In addition to the traffic shift on Maitland Boulevard, temporary nighttime lane closures are scheduled on Keller Road and Maitland Summit Boulevard, near the intersections of Maitland Boulevard.
Overall project work in the Maitland area includes reconstructing the I-4 interchange, elevating Maitland Boulevard over surface streets west of the interchange through Maitland Summit Boulevard and building a pedestrian bridge over I-4.
